Our Story

We grew up in the same pit as you. Now we make weddings feel like coming home.

Elder Emo Weddings started because we were tired of watching people we love have weddings that felt like someone else's. The generic playlist. The safe choices. The moment you realise "I Gotta Feeling" is playing and your soul leaves your body.

We're a collective of alternative-minded DJs, musicians, florists, celebrants, and creatives across Melbourne and regional Victoria. If you grew up on emo, punk and alternative music, we build experiences that actually reflect you. No cheese. No explaining your vibe. Just people who already get it.

Every person on this team genuinely lived this culture. We're not playing a character. We know the bridge to "Cute Without the E" by heart, and we know exactly why "Helena" hits different at a wedding.

Do you only play emo music at weddings?

Not even close. Emo and pop-punk are our specialty, but we play everything. Hip hop, indie, electronic, classic bangers. We read the room and keep the floor packed. The difference is we actually know your music inside out.

Will my parents and older guests enjoy this?

Absolutely. A great DJ plays for every person in the room. Your parents will dance. Your nan will have a blast. And then at 10pm, when the real ones are still standing, we bring out the heavy stuff.

What if only one of us is emo?

Honestly, that's most couples we work with. One of you lived in band tees, the other's just here for a great party — and you both get exactly that. We read the whole room, not just the playlist, so your partner, your parents and your mates all have the night of their lives while you get the songs that actually mean something. Nobody has to compromise.

Can we book individual services like just a DJ or flowers?

Yes! Each service is available individually. DJ only? Flowers only? Celebrant only? Absolutely. You can book exactly what you need.

Can wedding guests make song requests?

Of course. We love requests, they help us feel the energy. The only rule: we won't play anything that kills the vibe. No "Cotton Eye Joe" unless you specifically ask. Even then, we'll check twice.

How far in advance should we book?

As soon as you know your date. We take limited weddings per year to keep quality high. Peak season (October through March) books out fast. 6 to 12 months ahead is ideal.

Do you travel outside Melbourne for weddings?

Of course! We will follow you into the dark and down to Ocean Avenue to be part of your day! Interstate and destination weddings are also absolutely possible. Extra travel fees apply for venues further than 1.5 hours from Melbourne CBD. Please note DJ Ryley is based in Adelaide.

Can we mix and match vendors or services?

Absolutely. You're not locked into a package here. You can build your dream team your way. Want DJ Apples to run the show as your MC but have Luke behind the decks? Easy done. Prefer Scott as your MC with someone else DJing? No stress. Each service is booked individually, so you can mix, match, and customise your lineup to suit your vibe, your day, and exactly how you want it to run.

Who provides equipment?

All DJs and vendors bring along their own equipment for set up and pack down.

How do we secure the date?

In order to lock us in, a $500 non refundable deposit is required to lock in the date.
